Welcome to GARR Filesender

📁 What is Filesender?

GARR Filesender is a secure web application designed to allow users to send large files quickly and easily. Based on the open source FileSender software, the service is developed specifically for the needs of the research and education community.

Why use Filesender?

  • Security and Privacy: Data privacy and security are a top priority. Filesender is designed to offer you a transparent and trustworthy service.
  • Full Control: Unlike many commercial services, with Filesender you have total control over your data. You decide who can access the files and how long they remain available. Once expired, files are automatically and permanently deleted.
  • Transparency: You don't have to worry about what happens to your files "behind the scenes". The system is transparent and ensures compliance with sensitive data management regulations.

📖 Quick Start Guide

Accessing the Service

To use Filesender, click the Login button. The system uses IDEM federated authentication: use your standard institutional credentials (the same ones you use for your institution's network or email).

💡 If your institution is not listed or login fails, please contact your institution's IT support.

Sending Files

Filesender allows you to send files that are too large for standard email.

Sending Capacity

  • Maximum Size: Up to 200 GB per transfer (up to 30 files per shipment).
  • Requirements: To send files up to 200 GB and be able to resume interrupted uploads, you must use a modern browser that supports HTML5 (such as the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
  • Legacy Browsers: If you use an older browser (without full HTML5 support), the limit drops to 2 GB per file, and you will not be able to resume interrupted uploads.

Recipients and Expiration

  • Recipients: Up to 50 email addresses at a time (separated by comma or semicolon).
  • File Expiration: Files are available for download for a maximum of 14 days.
  • Guests: You can invite external users to upload files by sending them a "Voucher" (valid for up to 20 days).
